Can an apprentice electrician do side work in Texas?

No. Under 16 TAC §73.70, an individual license holder must provide all electrical work that requires a license through a licensed contractor or an employing governmental entity. An apprentice who takes a side job on their own is working outside that rule and can face TDLR penalties.
