Do electricians need a CDL?

Most electricians don't need a CDL. Federal rule 49 CFR 383.91 requires one for a single vehicle rated at 26,001 pounds or more, a combination of 26,001 pounds or more with a trailer over 10,000 pounds, or placarded hazardous materials. Service vans and pickups fall under that line, so the CDL comes up mostly in line work and utility jobs that run heavy trucks.
