Do North Carolina electricians need a state license?

No. North Carolina has no statewide journeyman license, and under state law an electrician who works as a bona fide employee of a licensed electrical contractor doesn't need a license of their own. The NC State Board of Examiners of Electrical Contractors licenses contracting businesses in Limited, Intermediate and Unlimited classes.
