OSHA requires forklift training and evaluation, and the employer certifies it. Under 29 CFR 1910.178(l), every operator needs formal instruction, practical training and an evaluation in the workplace before driving a forklift alone. The employer's certification lists the operator's name, the training and evaluation dates and who trained or evaluated them. Construction sites follow the same rule through 1926.602(d).
