Every year. Texas electrician licenses from the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) are good for one year from the date they're issued. Before each renewal, apprentices, journeymen and masters need 4 hours of continuing education (CE), and the TDLR-approved Buildforce CE course covers all 4 hours for $5. Apprentices enrolled in a TDLR-registered apprenticeship training program can count that program in place of the 4 CE hours. Then you pay TDLR's renewal fee, which is $20 for an apprentice, $30 for a journeyman and $45 for a master. Renew after your license expires and the fee goes up.
You need 4 hours of training each year on NEC updates, Texas electrical laws, and safety standards. All courses must be TDLR-approved.
Texas electricians are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education annually.
